
The weekend of 1-2 July was one of the most extraordinary of my life. Both days I shot a
"York" which is considered the toughest competition as you shoot arrows from 10am to 5 or 6pm half of which at the longest distance of 100 yards (notice the telescopes - you don't see your arrows at that distance otherwise).
On Saturday I won a Black Rose Award for scoring above 900 points (913).
On Sunday I won the Gentlemen's "
Recurve" (main bow type) Championship, both single and team! So, believe it or not, I am the 2006 Herts County Champion!! My score was 952. The
Herts Archery Association has published the results (see
county champions). You will see there that on some other years the winning scores were much higher and the trophy was scooped up by people at the top of the
UK ranking list. But there you go ... that day was somehow supposed to be my day...
